Handmade Felt Christmas Decorations

A felt decoration has one advantage over glass, which is that it survives being handed to a four-year-old.

Ours are hand-felted from organic wool and hung on the tree year after year. There are robins, Clarence and Cordelia and Ken the cats, Gunner the Black Lab and Bonnie the Westie, kittens in mittens, penguins in hats, snowmen, gingerbread men, a star-gazey whale and a wise old owl. Prices start at £9.99, with most between £14.99 and £17.99.

Above them go the tree toppers — eight designs at £24.99, including the Mistletoe Peace Dove and the Star of Wonder Mouse — and around the fireplace, hand-felted animal Christmas stockings.

Everything is designed in Faringdon, Oxfordshire by award-winning British designer Sonia Spencer, and made by skilled craftswomen in Kathmandu, Nepal and Jaipur, India, using wool coloured with eco-friendly Swiss dyes.

Felt does not shatter, does not shed glitter, and gets a little softer each year. Ours are bought as much for the buyer's own tree as for anyone else's.
