Each is hand-felted from organic wool sourced from Tibet and New Zealand, designed in Faringdon, Oxfordshire by award-winning British designer Sonia Spencer, and made by skilled craftswomen in Kathmandu, Nepal and Jaipur, India. The Tiny Animals stand about 12cm tall and start at £12.99; the flying wall trios are £39.99. For the house there are also wall-mounted swan heads, hanging nursery mobiles and bird slippers in adult and children's sizes.

They work as gifts because they are recognisable. Someone who knows a puffin from a guillemot will notice that we do too — and that is the whole difference between a gift that lands and one that doesn't.
